Segovia by Coach: Vía Roma, the Aqueduct and Parking

Segovia publishes clear rules for tourist coaches, which makes it one of the easier days out from Madrid to plan. The rules are firm, though: one approach road, one set-down, a one-way route and a size limit. Share them with the operator early.

Set-down beside the Aqueduct

Tourist coaches set down and pick up on the Avenida de la Vía Roma, close to the Aqueduct's arches, and they reach that stop by the Vía Roma alone. No bus may use the Avenida del Padre Claret. From the stop, the group walks up into the walled town.

The walk from the Aqueduct to the Alcázar crosses the whole of the old town, past the Plaza Mayor and the cathedral. The coach picks up on the Vía Roma again, so allow time for the walk back.

The panoramic route and its limits

Below the walls, a one-way road runs between the Aqueduct and the Fuencisla sanctuary: it leaves the Vía Roma for the Paseo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán, crosses the Puente de San Marcos and ends on the Alameda de la Fuencisla. It passes the Real Casa de Moneda and gives the views of the Alcázar. It sets a 13 m maximum length, a 2.55 m width, a 4 m height and a 19-tonne weight; confirm that the vehicle booked fits all four.

Coaches leave the Alameda by the Cuesta de los Hoyos and the Paseo de Ezequiel González, or by the road that joins the CL-605 towards Arévalo.

Coach access and parking rules in Segovia

  • Madrid-Barajas airport (MAD, Terminal 4) is about 105 km by road from the Aqueduct, about 1 h 40 min by coach in light traffic.
  • Coach size limit on the panoramic route: the Segovia tourism board admits only buses up to 19 tonnes, 13 m long, 2.55 m wide and 4 m high on the route between the Aqueduct and the Santuario de la Fuencisla.
  • Set-down and pick-up: tourist coaches stop on the Avenida de la Vía Roma, near the Aqueduct, and must reach the stop by the Avenida de la Vía Roma only. Buses may not use the Avenida del Padre Claret.
  • The panoramic route runs one way only: Avenida de la Vía Roma, Paseo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán, Puente de San Marcos and the Alameda de la Fuencisla. From the Alameda, coaches leave either by the Cuesta de los Hoyos and the Paseo de Ezequiel González, or by the road that joins the Carretera de Arévalo (CL-605).
  • Coach parking listed by the tourism board: the marked bus area on the Alameda de la Fuencisla, and the signposted bus park called "Velódromo" on the Paseo de Ezequiel González, by the "Cándido" roundabout.
  • Low-emission zone: Segovia's ZBE ordinance for the walled town was annulled by the regional High Court (Tribunal Superior de Justicia de Castilla y León) in May 2025, and the city is preparing a new one. Check the current rule before travel.

Where the coach waits

The tourism board lists two places: the bus area marked out on the Alameda de la Fuencisla, and the signposted coach park known as "Velódromo" next to the "Cándido" roundabout on the Paseo de Ezequiel González. The driver goes there after the set-down and comes back at the agreed time.

On emissions: the zone for the walled town was struck down by the Castilla y León High Court in May 2025, and a replacement ordinance is being drafted. The operator checks what applies on your date.

Madrid, La Granja and Ávila

From Terminal 4 at Madrid-Barajas it is about 105 km, roughly 1 h 40 min by coach; from the Puerta del Sol about 95 km. Both La Granja and Riofrío palace lie some 25 minutes from the Aqueduct and Pedraza 50; El Escorial takes about 1 h 5 min, Ávila about 1 h 15 min.

What organisers ask us

Is a 15-metre coach allowed on the panoramic route?

No. Anything over 13 m is barred, and the route also caps weight at 19 tonnes, width at 2.55 m and height at 4 m. A longer coach can still use the Vía Roma set-down, but not the route below the walls.

Can we see Segovia and Ávila in one day?

The two cities are about 73 km apart, about 1 h 15 min by coach. Starting and ending in Madrid it makes a full day, so check the total driving time against the driver's hours.

Does Segovia have a low-emission zone now?

Not as things stand: the courts overturned the earlier ordinance in May 2025 and the city is working on another. The rule may change, so the operator confirms it before travel.
