Madrid-Barajas coach transfers: T4 bus terminal or T1 bus park

At Barajas the terminal decides everything. T1 and T4 are far apart, each has its own coach place, and neither is the arrivals kerb. Settle the terminal for every flight before you settle anything else.

Two coach places, one per terminal side

Flights land at T1, at T2 and T3 (one connected building), or at T4 and its satellite T4S. For a T4 arrival the coach uses the T4 bus terminal on the north side of car park P4, beside module F. The group reaches it from the terminal by ramps, moving walkways and lifts. The stops on the T4 arrivals road are kept for the inter-terminal bus, city buses and car-park shuttles, so do not tell the group to look for the coach at the door.

For T1 the coach uses the T1 bus park beside the terminal, which long-distance bus lines also use. Confirm with the operator which place applies, and where inside the building the group gathers.

When the group lands at different terminals

A free bus links T1, T2 and T4 day and night, every 5 minutes from 06:00 to 22:00 and every 20 minutes at night. Its stops are on the departures levels. If half the group comes in on a T4 flight and half on a T1 flight, bring everyone to one coach place rather than paying for two pick-ups.

Where the group boards the coach

  • Terminal T4 has a dedicated bus terminal (Terminal de autobuses T4) on the north side of car park P4, next to module F, linked to T4 by ramps, moving walkways and lifts. It opened in October 2022 with 30 bays on the ground floor and a waiting floor above, and it is meant for long-distance regular buses and for discretionary group and excursion coaches; the stops on the T4 arrivals road (level 0) are now only for the airport's inter-terminal bus, city buses and car-park shuttles. At Terminal T1, coaches use the T1 bus park (Aparcamiento de autobuses), which is also the T1 stop for long-distance bus lines. Agree with the operator which terminal and which of these two places the coach will use, and where the group meets the driver.

Where coaches park and wait

  • Aena's T1 parking map shows the bus park next to Terminal T1. Aena publishes no separate coach waiting area or coach rules for the terminals. App-booked and pre-booked cars with driver (VTC) have meeting points in car park P1 (raised area, west side), in the T2 arrivals express car park, and in car park P4 (module B, level 4).

Road time into the city

  • about 15 km by road from Terminal T1, and about 20 km from Terminal T4, to the Puerta del Sol, in the centre of Madrid, about 25 min by coach from T1 and about 30 min from T4 in light traffic; longer at peak times

The run into Madrid and the ZBE

The Puerta del Sol is about 15 km from T1 and about 20 km from T4: roughly 25 or 30 minutes on a clear road, more at rush hour. The whole municipality is a low-emission zone. Under the current rule, buses without a DGT label may drive there on a temporary and conditional basis, never on pollution-episode days. The historic centre (Distrito Centro) is stricter: only coaches with the 0, ECO or C label that serve a hotel or venue inside it may enter. Give the hotel address with the booking; the operator checks the rule again before travel.

Straight from the plane to Toledo or Segovia

Toledo is about 91 km from T4, around 1 h 25 min. Coaches there stop at Safont, the Paseo de Recaredo or the Puente de San Martín, not at Zocodover, and escalators carry the group up into the old town. Segovia is about 105 km from T4, around 1 h 40 min, with set-down on Vía Roma. After a long-haul landing, add the touring day to the airport run and check the total against the driver's legal hours.

What organisers ask us

Can the coach meet us on the T4 arrivals road?

No. That road is reserved for the inter-terminal bus, city buses and car-park shuttles. Coaches load at the T4 bus terminal next to module F of car park P4.

We are only six people. Is a coach still the answer?

Probably not. A car with driver (VTC) carries up to 9 people including the driver and must be booked in advance. At Barajas these cars meet passengers in car parks P1 and P4 and in the T2 arrivals express car park.

Could some of the group ride the metro instead?

Line 8 reaches Nuevos Ministerios in about 13 minutes from the T1-T2-T3 station, and the airport stations charge a supplement.
