Alicante-Elche airport coaches to Benidorm, Alicante and the Costa Blanca

The airport sits in the municipality of Elche, and most groups landing here are bound for Benidorm or another Costa Blanca resort. The coach plan starts with a meeting point that Aena does not publish, so it is set with the booking.

Choosing the meeting point

Aena's pages for Alicante-Elche show no place where group coaches collect passengers or wait. Most tour-operator desks are on floor -2, in the public area, and one is in the arrivals hall on floor 0. Either makes a sensible gathering place. The operator then says where the coach will stop outside. Write both on the group's travel sheet.

The arrivals express car park suits cars collecting a passenger or two, for a short free period before charges start; a coach waiting for a late flight needs another place.

Benidorm and its low-emission zone

Benidorm's old town is about 58 km away by the AP-7, around an hour. Some AP- motorways charge tolls. Benidorm's low-emission zone has three parts, Centro, Levante with the old town, and the Poniente beachfront, watched by cameras. Coaches with the C, ECO or zero-emission label enter; older coaches need an authorisation through the city's platform.

Hotel set-down in Benidorm is not covered by any official list, so the operator settles each stop with the hotel. Tell the operator the hotel names, not only "Levante" or "Poniente".

Where the group boards the coach

  • Aena does not publish a pick-up point or a waiting area for discretionary coaches at Alicante-Elche. Most tour-operator desks are on floor -2 (public area), with one in the arrivals hall (floor 0). Agree the meeting point and where the coach will stop with the operator when booking.

Where coaches park and wait

  • No coach rules are published. The arrivals express car park is meant for picking up and is free for the first 10 minutes. Cars with driver (VTC) pick up on floor 0 of the passenger terminal.

Road time into the city

  • about 16 km by road to the Ayuntamiento (town hall), in the centre of Alicante, about 25 min by coach in light traffic; longer at peak times

Alicante itself

The Ayuntamiento is about 16 km by road, roughly 25 minutes. Only the Casco Antiguo has real traffic limits. The Castillo de Santa Bárbara road is closed to full-size coaches: groups take the lifts from the Avenida de Juan Bautista Lafora, opposite the Postiguet beach. During the Hogueras, around 20 to 24 June, streets in the centre close.

Longer runs

Murcia, Cartagena, Elche's Palmeral and Valencia are all within reach. Valencia is about 177 km from Alicante, roughly 2 h 30 min, which is a long transfer after a flight. Count it as part of the driver's day.

What organisers ask us

Is the airport in Alicante or Elche?

In Elche. Aena places it about 9 km south-west of Alicante; the road to the centre is about 16 km.

Can a coach drive up to Santa Bárbara castle?

No. The road allows only taxis, minibuses up to 8.50 m and service vehicles. Coach groups use the lifts opposite the Postiguet beach.

Does a railway serve the airport?

No. Bus C6 runs to central Alicante and links with the TRAM at Luceros.
