Granada-Jaén airport coach transfers and the Alhambra clock
Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén is a small airport west of the city. The transfer itself is simple. What drives the plan is the Alhambra: its timed entry for the Nasrid Palaces does not move for a late flight.
A small airport with no coach stop
Aena lists nothing for coaches at this airport, neither a stop nor a holding area, so the stopping place becomes part of the booking. The covered car park next to the terminal has a 2.5 m clearance: no coaches and no tall minibuses. There is one terminal, which makes the meeting point easy to describe.

Into Granada
The Plaza Isabel la Católica is about 19 km by road, around 30 minutes. Granada's low-emission zone covers almost the whole city, but regular and discretionary buses and minibuses have free access without an authorisation. The Albaicín, the Realejo and parts of the centre are camera-controlled, and their streets are too narrow for a coach. Groups walk up, use the city minibuses, or go in a small vehicle where the operator holds the access permit. The congress centre on the Paseo del Violón, beside the river Genil, is an easy coach run from the airport.
Where the group boards the coach
- Aena does not publish a pick-up point or a waiting area for discretionary coaches at Granada-Jaén. Agree the meeting point and where the coach will stop with the operator when booking.
Where coaches park and wait
- No coach rules are published. The general car park next to the terminal is covered and has a clearance of 2.5 m, so it does not take coaches or tall minibuses.
Road time into the city
- about 19 km by road to the Plaza Isabel la Católica, in the centre of Granada, about 30 min by coach in light traffic; longer at peak times
Timing the Alhambra
Coaches use the Alhambra's P-4 car park; the route to it stays open, as the monument grounds are outside the zone. Groups are at most 30 people with a licensed guide, and the Nasrid Palaces time on the ticket must be kept. Do not book that slot on the arrival afternoon unless the flight leaves a wide margin. A morning visit the next day is safer.
A group of more than 30 needs to be split into two guided groups, each with its own time.
If you land at Málaga instead
Many groups fly into Málaga-Costa del Sol, about 137 km away, around 2 h 15 min by coach. That is a long first leg after a flight, and it counts towards the driver's day. Granada-Jaén saves those hours when its flights fit.
What organisers ask us
Can the coach wait in the airport car park?
No, the clearance there is 2.5 m. Waiting and loading places are set by the operator.
Can a coach drive into the Albaicín?
No. The streets are restricted and too narrow. Groups walk, ride the city minibuses or use a small permitted vehicle.
How many people can visit the Alhambra together?
At most 30, with a licensed guide. Larger parties split into several groups with separate times.
