Girona Coach Hire: Old Town, Dalí and the Costa Brava

Girona's tourism office publishes exactly where coaches may stop and park, which makes the plan easy to write. The set-down points are on the edge of the old town, never at the river houses or the cathedral, and the group walks the rest.

Two places to set down

On the Passeig de la Devesa, where it runs from the Pont de Pedret roundabout up to the Avinguda de França bridge, coaches may stop for up to 15 minutes between 09:00 and 21:00, without parking. At the Passeig d'Olot bus station, bays 25, 26 and 27 take coaches for 10 minutes at most, between 05:45 and 23:00; then the coach must leave the station.

Coaches do not stop by the Onyar or the cathedral. The Barri Vell is steep and mostly pedestrian, so allow time for the climb, and read the tourism office's rules for groups in the old town.

Parking while the group walks

Around the Pavelló de Fontajau, coaches use the blue-line bays, with paid parking on working days from Monday to Saturday, 09:30 to 20:00. At the Pavelló de Palau 2 there is no time limit. The driver goes to one of them after the set-down.

Coach access and parking rules in Girona

  • Girona airport (GRO, Girona-Costa Brava) is about 14 km by road from the old town, about 30 min by coach in light traffic. Barcelona airport (BCN, Terminal 1) is about 118 km (about 1 h 55 min).
  • Coach set-down and pick-up (tourism office list): the Passeig de la Devesa, between the Pont de Pedret roundabout and the Avinguda de França bridge, 09:00 to 21:00, up to 15 minutes, no parking; and the bus station (Estació d'autobusos, Passeig d'Olot), 05:45 to 23:00, bays 25 to 27, up to 10 minutes, after which the coach must leave the station.
  • Coach parking (tourism office list): around the Pavelló de Fontajau (Carrer Josep Tarradellas i Joan), in the bays marked with blue lines, with regulated paid parking on working days Monday to Saturday 09:30 to 20:00; and at the Pavelló de Palau 2 (Carrer Josep Aguilera i Martí), with no time limit.
  • Girona has a low-emission zone (ZBE) since 15 September 2025, from the Parc de la Devesa to the Carrer d'Emili Grahit and from the Carrer del Riu Güell to the Carrer del Carme, including the Barri Vell. It applies 07:00 to 20:00, Monday to Friday on working days. Vehicles with any DGT label (B, C, ECO or zero-emission) may enter freely.
  • ZBE access without a label: vehicles from outside Girona may enter on up to 24 days a year without asking. Buses and coaches for public passenger transport, vehicles carrying people with reduced mobility and foreign-registered vehicles that meet the emission requirements can apply for an authorisation. The city plans to review the zone before 2028. Check before travel.
  • The Barri Vell is steep and largely pedestrian; groups walk up from the Devesa or the Onyar riverside. The tourism office publishes rules for tourist groups in the old town.
  • Temps de Flors, the flower festival in the old town every May, brings large crowds and a special parking plan.

The low-emission zone

Girona's low-emission zone has run since 15 September 2025. It reaches from the Carrer del Riu Güell to the Carrer del Carme and from the Parc de la Devesa across to the Carrer d'Emili Grahit, takes in the Barri Vell, and is active from 07:00 until 20:00, working days only, Monday to Friday. Vehicles carrying any DGT label pass freely.

Coaches for public passenger transport and foreign vehicles that meet the emission rules can apply for an authorisation, and unlabelled vehicles from outside Girona may enter on up to 24 days a year. A review is due before 2028. In May, Temps de Flors brings crowds and a special parking plan.

Figueres and the Costa Brava

The Dalí theatre-museum in Figueres is about 50 minutes away, Púbol about 40. Tossa and Lloret take about 50 minutes, Peratallada and Pals about an hour, Calella de Palafrugell 1 h 10 min and Cadaqués 1 h 30 min. Barcelona's Plaça de Catalunya is about 1 h 40 min.

What organisers ask us

Is there a coach pick-up point at Girona airport?

Not an official one: Aena names none, and the meeting place is settled with the operator. The car park in front of the terminal has a 2.1 m clearance and takes no coaches. From the terminal to the old town is about 14 km, roughly 30 minutes.

Is Barcelona airport an option?

Yes. Terminal 1 is about 118 km from Girona, roughly 1 h 55 min by coach, which suits groups combining both cities.

Can a coach without a DGT label enter the zone?

A coach used for public passenger transport, or a foreign one that meets the emission rules, can apply for an authorisation. The operator arranges it before the day.
