Wedding Transport for the Couple and Every Guest

Most weddings need two kinds of vehicle: a car for the couple and a coach or minibus for the guests. In Spain they run under different rules, so book them as one plan.

A car with driver is a VTC in Spanish law. It has at most nine seats including the driver, and it only works on pre-booked services. It may wait for the people who booked it, but not pick up anyone else, so list every passenger and every stop: the house, the church or registry office, the photographs, the reception.

Once the group passes eight guests, the vehicle counts as a bus and runs under a bus authorisation. A guest coach is discretionary transport, hired as a whole vehicle, so you decide who rides and where it stops. Belts are worn wherever fitted, in the car and on the coach.

Old-town ceremonies

Historic centres are often closed to coaches. In Toledo, coaches stop only at Safont, the Paseo de Recaredo and the Puente de San Martín, never at Zocodover. Coaches bringing guests to a wedding in the city are exempt from Toledo's tourist-coach charge when they cannot stop at the door, but the exemption must be applied for. In Granada, the Albaicín and the Realejo are too narrow for coaches: guests walk up, take the city minibuses, or travel in a small vehicle whose operator holds the access permit.

Plan the return before the party starts

Decide the return runs early. One departure at a fixed time is simple. Two runs, an early one for families and a late one for the rest, suit a long reception. A driver who started in the morning has a daily limit and a rest period to respect, so a late finish may need a second driver. Say where guests are staying, since one hotel or five changes the timing.

Can the car wait during the ceremony and the photographs?

Yes. It is your pre-booked service, so it waits for you. What it may not do is pick up people who did not book.

How many people fit in a car with driver?

One to three comfortably, or up to eight in a van-type car. Beyond that, a minibus is the next size.

Can guests be collected from several hotels?

Yes. List the hotels and the number of guests at each. The operator builds the route and confirms where the coach can stop at each one.
