Santiago de Compostela airport coaches for pilgrims and groups
Santiago is a walking city: the coach gets the group to the edge of the old town and no further. From the airport the run is short. The work is in the set-down, the luggage and, in 2027, the crowds.
The bus bay at Arrivals
Aena has described a bus bay for coaches in the express area on the Arrivals level, in front of the terminal, reached through its own entry barrier. That description dates from 2019, so the operator confirms it is still the place used. The express areas are for short stops; after a limited free time the whole stay is charged. A coach does not sit there through a delay. Ask the driver to message the group leader on arrival, so the group walks out as the coach pulls in.

Into the city: Xoán XXIII and the walk
The Praza do Obradoiro is about 14 km from the terminal, around 30 minutes. Coaches set down at the bay on the Avenida de Xoán XXIII, about 200 m from the cathedral. Each entry allows 15 minutes, and one ticket covers repeated entries on the same day. The old town is pedestrian, so groups walk in from there.
If the hotel is in the old town, plan the luggage separately: the coach cannot reach the door. No long-stay coach park was found, so after the set-down the operator arranges where the coach waits.
Where the group boards the coach
- The express area on the Arrivals level (P0), in front of the terminal, has a bus bay (dársena de autobuses) with 12 spaces for coaches, reached through its own entry barrier. Agree the meeting point with the operator when booking.
Where coaches park and wait
- The express areas are barrier-controlled and meant for short stops; Aena's current parking page gives the first 10 minutes free, and a longer stay is charged for the whole time. No separate coach waiting area is published.
Road time into the city
- about 14 km by road to the Praza do Obradoiro, in the centre of Santiago de Compostela, about 30 min by coach in light traffic; longer at peak times
Holy Year 2027
2027 is a Xacobeo Holy Year, because 25 July falls on a Sunday. Expect more pilgrims, more groups and heavy hotel demand from the end of 2026. Book coaches as early as the hotels. Short set-down windows mean a group that is ready on the pavement saves everyone time.
Days out from Santiago
A Coruña is about 75 km from the city, Fisterra about 86 km on slower roads, and the Rías Baixas around Cambados about 62 km. A pilgrim group finishing the Camino can add one such day. Build it on a full rest day, not the arrival day.
What organisers ask us
Can the coach drop us at our hotel near the cathedral?
No. The old town is pedestrian. The coach stops at the Xoán XXIII bay and the group walks about 200 m.
Is there a rail link?
None. City bus 6A runs to Santiago, and other buses go to Lugo and A Coruña.
How early should we book for 2027?
As early as you book hotels. The Holy Year brings heavy demand from late 2026.
