Málaga Cruise Groups: Coach Hire with Driver

Málaga's cruise terminals sit close to the centre, so a group can often walk into town. A coach earns its place on the airport run and on excursions inland.

Levante or Palmeral

Ships of any size berth at the Muelle de Levante, which has two terminals, A and B, and four berths. Smaller ships can use the Palmeral terminal at the city end of the port, by the palm-lined promenade. Each place has a public area for picking up and dropping off, one facing A and B and one close to the Palmeral. The terminal does not run them, so the driver and the group leader agree an exact spot.

Cruise-line shuttles into town exist only while the ship is in, and only if the line provides them. A booked coach depends on neither.

Airport and trains

Count on roughly 25 minutes and 14 km between the ship and Málaga-Costa del Sol airport. Aena names no coach pick-up point at Málaga; the operator agrees one with you.

Passengers travelling light can walk about eight minutes to Málaga Centro Alameda and take Cercanías line C1, a 12-minute ride to the airport. The high-speed station, María Zambrano, is around 1.3 km from the ships.

From the ship to the coach

  • There is a passenger pick-up and drop-off area in front of Terminals A and B and another near the Palmeral terminal; they are public areas, not run by the terminal operator.
  • Shuttle buses to the city depend on the cruise line and run only during the ship's call.
  • The Plaza de la Constitución, in the centre of Málaga, is about 4 km by road from the Muelle de Levante terminals, about 15 min by coach in light traffic.
  • Málaga María Zambrano station (high-speed trains) is about 1.3 km from the port, according to the terminal operator.
  • Cercanías line C1 runs from Málaga Centro Alameda, about 8 minutes on foot from the port according to the terminal operator, to the airport in about 12 minutes.
  • Granada (Plaza Isabel la Católica) is about 131 km by road from the Muelle de Levante, about 2 h 10 min by coach in light traffic, so an Alhambra shore excursion is a long day.

Airports for this port

Stopping in the city

It is about 4 km by road to the Plaza de la Constitución. The historic centre is a camera-controlled restricted area, so coaches set down at its edge, at a stop the operator confirms. From December 2026, label B vehicles from outside Málaga also lose access to the ZBE. The city page does not mention hire coaches, so the operator checks the rule in force.

Granada on a port call

The Alhambra is the obvious excursion, and a long one: some 131 km and about 2 h 10 min on the road each way. Alhambra groups are at most 30 people with a licensed guide, and the Nasrid Palaces time must be kept. Work backwards from the all-aboard time. If the margin is thin, Nerja (about 58 km from the city) or Ronda (about 104 km) make shorter days.

What organisers ask us

Is the cruise terminal accessible?

The terminal operator says its facilities are fully accessible and wheelchair assistance is available on request. For the transfer, book a wheelchair-accessible minibus and say how many wheelchair users are travelling.

Can we fit the Alhambra into one call?

Only with a long call. Driving alone takes over four hours there and back, before the visit and its fixed entry time.

Do we need a coach to reach the centre?

Not always. It makes sense for luggage, for guests who cannot walk far, and for anything beyond the city.
